How can I generate a CAN packet with the RTR bit set using the CANCapture and ECOM module?

CANCapture currently does not support remote frames. The ECOM device driver and hardware does support transmitting them, but it has never been added or requested for CANCapture probably since most users are using J1939 or similar with software support for requesting data. I am not sure how they are received in CANCapture either - they may just be ignored.

Did you just want to transmit remote frames, or did you want some kind of support for automatic responses in hardware or something similar? We have never encountered remote frames in our industry, so I am truthfully not very familiar with what all is involved besides what I have read in datasheets. I know the ECOM supports transmitting messages with the RTR bit set, so we could easily add this to CANCapture, but I'm not sure if there was more that may need to be added as well. Shoot me an email if this is a show-stopper for you, and if its something that can be added relatively easily, I will try to get you a quick test-release with support added.

The only additional feature I need is to be able to transmit a CAN frame with the RTR bit set. I do not need any other automated response from CANCapture. I was hoping that there was a work-around by setting some 'reserved' bit or something.

Not being able to use CANCapture to send a RTR frame is a show stopper for our project and this tool. BTW, I do like the CANCapture application, and its works really well. I would very much appreciate any attempt you can provide at some kind of work-around for supporting the RTR (transmit only). If not, I understand, but will be forced to move onto another CAN analyzer package.
